There was panic in Kaduna communities as flood wreaked havoc in Kafanchan and
other villages in Jema’a Local Government Area of the state, where two children were
swept away and over 1,000 residents displaced.
Vice Chairman of Jema’a LGA, Christy Usman made this known when she received the
Kaduna State Impact Assessment Committee on Flood on tour of affected communities
in Southern Kaduna.
According to her, the flood incidents which happened in parts of Kafanchan Municipal
City, Jagindi, Atuku, Aso and Bade wards also washed away farmlands, destroying crops
worth millions of naira, and the flood has affected the people of Jema’a council
economically, expressing happiness that Governor Uba Sani has responded positively
by sending the committee chaired by the Chief of Staff, Malam Sani Kila to assess the
impact of the flood.
She, expressed optimism that the government would bring relief materials to the
victims, especially food items, building materials and financial assistance.
While briefing newsmen after visiting the affected communities in Sanga, Jema’a and
Kachia councils, the Chairman of the Committee and Chief of Staff to the Governor,
Malam Kilas said thousands of people need immediate assistance.
