Supporter of the All Progressives Congress and a section of the state electorates were thrown into confusion after the Court of Appeal ordered the party to conduct fresh primaries in 11 local government areas of the State.

Mrs. Lizzy Chirkpi, a guest of ATN Politics, while commenting on the decision of Prof. Terhemba Shija, the aggrieved APC governorship candidate who secured a judgement ordering the conduct of a fresh primaries to head to Court, said a lot of Benue electorate are queuing behind Rev. Father Hyacinth Alia, hence, the judgement throw them into confusion.

She said, “The members of the All Progressive Congress and largely the people of Benue State have been thrown in a state of confusion since this judgement was delivered. Because there seem to be a lot of persons queuing behind this candidate for very obvious reasons that he is a man of God. Recall that some time ago, Reverend Father Adasu ruled Benue state and the people have been saying that government wasn’t so bad, so this time around the people of Benue State are coming out to say in a very loud voice that, Yes, we want another Reverend Father.”

She however, maintained that Shija’s decision to head to the Supreme Court is within his right.

“That is the beauty of Democracy, the court is the last hope of the common man.  So, there is nothing wrong if Prof. Terhemba Shija has decided to approach the court for what he feels short changed about. For him and his supporters, they are happy about the judgement but like he said he will be heading to the Supreme Court. So we will only watch out for the supreme Court’s pronouncement,” she said.

Prof. Shija, in a statement issued by the Director-General of his campaign organization, Dr. James Mbachiantim, noted that, the verdict of the court falls short of his expectation and after wide consultation with critical stakeholders and his legal team they have resolved to head to supreme court. He however, commended the courage of the justices that adjudicated on the matter.
