2023 PRESIDENCY: Analyst backs Kwankwaso over decision to accept defeat if elections are credible
Rabiu Kwankwaso, Presidential Candidate of New Nigerian Peoples' Party

An analyst, Mr. Paul Alelumhe has supported the position of the presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples’ Party to Accept defeat if the elections are free, fair and credible.

Mr. Alelumhe, while commenting on Kwankwaso’s position on ATN Politics said, people will naturally accept defeat when the process is not compromised.

He said, “Kwankwaso is right by saying if the elections are not free and fear he will not accept the outcome. Normally people will accept defeat naturally when the process is credible enough. If you know you are defeated fairly and squarely you will not make trouble.”

He expressed confidence that the introduction of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, will improve on the gains of 2015 and 2019.

“You hardly see in an election in this country that people will not go to court but thank God that the two few elections; 2019 and 2015 there has been progressive reduction. We just hope that Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, will do the magic. We just hope that that will go a long way to ensure that 2023 elections are credible enough that the outcome will ordinarily be accepted by Nigerians and the contestants,” he said.

Mr. Alelumhe used the opportunity to call on INEC, security agencies, politicians and other stakeholders in the elections to play by the rules.

Mr. Alelumhe said, “INEC as a state actor should behave and play that role of neutrality. The police and security agencies must play by the rules.”

Mr. Kwankwaso while addressing student and lectures at the university of Abuja emphasized that he will only accept defeat in the 2023 presidential election if the process is free, fair and credible. Kwankwanso is one of the four frontline candidate in the 2023 presidential elections.
