Calls For Private Investment In Healthcare.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo - Olu, is appealing to
private institutions and individuals to invest more in health financing as a
way to help reduce medical tourism and brain drain.
Sanwo-Olu said, there is a need to create an ecosystem where
Private Public Partnership would be effective in providing healthcare services
to the vulnerable and the weak in society.
Speaking at the official commissioning of Atlantis pediatric and
multi-specialist hospital in the Lekki area of the state, the Governor
maintained that, increasing investment in the provision of medical
infrastructure and facilities from the public and private sectors would have a
combined positive effect in reducing medical tourism and brain drain.
He also expressed his administration’s commitment to collaborate
with private investors in reducing medical tourism and brain drain through a
diagnostic capacity and capability, and commended the medical director of
Atlantis pediatric, Dr Atinuke Uwajeh for coming back to the country to invest in
children’s healthcare, stressing that, the pediatric hospital would complement
the government’s effort to improve the state infant and maternal mortality
index.
In her remarks, Uwajeh said the hospital was built to become the
foremost pediatric and maternal care hospital in sub-Saharan Africa.
