As many countries are experiencing an upsurge of Covid-19 cases the federal ministry of health has given out an advisory to all Nigerians towards adherence to Covid-19 prevention measures of washing of hand, use of hand sanitizers among others.
The minister of health Dr. Osegie Ehenare who was speaking in Abuja said despite the fact that Nigeria is not seeing increase in hospitalization regarding covid 19 said there was need to start the needed preventive measures against the virus.
There have been upsurge in cases of covid-19 in countries like China, US and some Countries around the world the Omicron variant of the covid 19 virus was said to have more potential to evade human antibodies from vaccines and past infection.
All over the world, there’s been a surge in Covid cases related to this omicron XBB 1.5.
The minister of health Dr. Osegie Ehenare in the his bi weekly press briefing emphasized the importance of Covid-19 vaccines as a critical preventive measures and the need to embark on deliberate actions to ensure many more Nigerians are vaccinated.
Ehenire urged those who have taken their vaccines to go for their vaccine boosters as those who have been vaccinated and taken their booster are better protected and less likely to fall sick.
The ministry is also heightening it level of surveillance at every point of entry urging travelers to cooperate with government agencies and follow every rules of engagement.
The Director General, Nigeria Centre Disease Control Dr Ifedayo Adetifa in his presentation said the agency was monitoring the raise of omicron XBB 1.5 in the UK, US and trends from other countries.
