Govt Monitors Labour Minimum Wage Negotiation Target.
Abia State Government says it is monitoring the ongoing negotiations for wage awards for Abia civil servants and their welfare at the federal level.
The state overnment disclosed this at the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti.
The Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chinedu Ekeke, said, the government do not want to go ahead of the federal government to make proclamations and assured that, the state government will improve workers’ welfare, including potential salary increments, based on what the state can afford.
Ekeke also said, the clearance of pension arrears for retired civil servants in the state was based on an agreement with the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Abia State chapter, and therefore represents a full and final settlement.
He said, government is holding conversation with the Nigeria Union of Pensioners in Abia State chapter, to pay all outstanding arrears.
