Minister of State for Defense, Bello Matawalle, has said that the approved 2024 budget of the Defense Health Insurance Limited is an indication that President Bola Tinubu places high priority on quality healthcare of military veterans.

The minister said this during the 34th meeting of the Board of Directors of the DHIL at Ship House, Abuja, on Wednesday, March 20.

The members of the Board in attendance included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, and Managing Director of Defence Health Maintenance Limited, Surgeon Rear Admiral AB Afolayan (rtd).

The minister said the board’s endorsement for the payment of a severance allowance equivalent to 40 percent of the staff’s basic salary was another demonstration that the welfare of the staff of the organization is of top priority as well.

Matawalle said the approved DHML 2024 budget would ensure the effective operation of the health insurance scheme in support of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

He charged the Board of Directors of the DHIL to be prudent and effective in the management of the resources in fulfilment of DHML’s mandate.
