2023 ELECTION: Nigeria cannot risk outsourcing BVAS verification to third-party, Analyst opposes Chidoka
Osita Chidoka, Former Minister of Aviation

The call by former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, that the Bimodal Verification Accreditation System (BVAS) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should be subjected to third-party verification has been opposed by analyst.

Mr. Moses Idika, a guest on ATN Politics while reacting to the call by Mr. Osita on the programme said "we (Nigeria) cannot afford to outsource such a critical part of our election to any third group." Adding that what should be done is that INEC should assure citizens that the BVAS will not be compromised.

He said INEC should upgrade their registration technology to provide real-time information on whether or not a prospective registrant has been earlier captured or not. The technology should be efficient to the extent that it can add up thereby saving time and money.

Mr. Chidoka is of the view that if the BVAS can be alleged used to load accredited voters without a proper accreditation happening, then there is a cause for concern. He also expressed worry over the inability of INEC system to efficiently check multiple registration, hence, necessitating the call for third-party evaluated. INEC had earlier announced the delisting of over 1.1 million registrants in the course of data cleanup after the suspension of the extended voter registration.
