to Upgrade FMC To Teaching Hospital.
Federal Government of Nigeria has initiated the process
of upgrading the Federal Medical Centre, in Azare, located in the Katagum Local
Government Area of Bauchi State, to the status of a teaching hospital.
Dr. Jimoh Olawole Salaudeen, Director of Hospital
Services at the Federal Ministry of Health, announced this during a visit to
the Emir of Katagum, Dr. Umar Faruq II.
He mentioned that his team was in Azare for an assessment
visit in preparation for converting the FMC into a teaching hospital to enhance
healthcare services.
Salaudeen noted that the Federal University of Health
Sciences Azare, FUHSA, and the FMC in Azare are closely situated, facilitating
the conversion for enhanced medical education and service delivery.
According to him, the assessment visit will help the
Federal Government identify the gap and see what they have on hand in terms of
personnel, infrastructure, equipment, and land mass for future expansion.
Responding, the Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Umar Faruq II,
praised President Bola Tinubu for initiating the conversion of FMC Azare into a
teaching hospital, adding that the gesture will improve healthcare delivery to
the citizens.
