Pledges Thorough Investigation On Fraud Allegations.
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, has pledged to
conduct a thorough investigation into the corruption allegations against the
Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.
Spokesman of the anti-graft agency, Dele Oyewale, gave
this assurance in a statement on Wednesday during an interface at the EFCC
headquarters in Abuja between the EFCC and members of the Tinubu Youth and
Women Network, a political pressure group that has been advocating for an
investigation into Matawalle’s alleged corruption.
Matawalle is being investigated over allegations of
mismanagement of public funds and resources during his tenure as the Governor
of Zamfara State from 2019 to 2023.
Recall that the EFCC had announced in May 2023 that it
was investigating Matawalle over allegations of massive corruption, award of
fictitious contracts, and diversion of over N70 billion.
