People’s Democratic Party in Abia state is calling on the Presidency to submit an Executive bill to the National Assembly to effect the constitutional amendment to ensure local government autonomy, following the judgment of the Supreme Court granting local government autonomy.
The Abia PDP Vice Chairman and Acting State Publicity Secretary, Abraham Amah, who disclosed this commend the Supreme Court for laying to rest the longstanding issue of local government autonomy, and wholeheartedly supported the significant development.
The PDP also advised President Tinubu that, to further strengthen the autonomy and free local governments from undue political influence, the Presidency need to swiftly submit an executive bill to the National Assembly for a constitutional amendment reflecting the autonomy of local governments.
The party said, the proposed constitutional revision should include measures such as dissolving the current Local Government Service Commissions and established bodies at the local council level to manage employees and guarantee their pensions through a well-structured contributory scheme.
