INEC suspends electoral officer over missing ballot papers

Independent National Electoral Commission has suspended the Electoral Officer for Jos North Local Government Area, Fred Ogboji, over missing ballot papers in Saturday’s rerun election.


A statement by the state Head of Department of Electoral Operations, Mr Isah Idakwo, on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Jos directed the electoral officer to step aside to give room for a proper investigation.

This is coming after INEC on Saturday rescheduled election in 16 polling units of Jos North-Bassa Federal Constituency following the discovery of some ballot papers that were missing.


The state INEC REC Dr Oliver Agundu, said in a statement that the election had been rescheduled for today, Sunday, February. 4, adding that the commission discovered at the eve of the rerun that the ballot papers for 16 polling units in Jos North-Bassa Federal Constituency had gone missing.


He also said, that the matter had been referred to the security agencies for investigation.
