CP Demotes
Police Officer For Extorting Motorists.
Imo State police
commissioner, Aboki Danjuma, has demoted an officer, Inspector Isong Osudueh,
attached to the Counter Terrorism Unit in Owerri, following a widely circulated
video showing him extorting money from motorists along the Owerri-Onitsha
Expressway.
Disclosing the
disciplinary action in a statement by the Command’s spokesman, Henry Okoye,
said, the Police officer’s behaviour was “shameful and unprofessional”
stressing that, the supervisory officer has also been issued an official query
for lack of supervision.
Aboki, who condemned the
officer’s actions, said, the Command
would not tolerate any form of extortion or misconduct by its personnel and
warned that supervisory officers who fail to carry out their oversight duties
will face severe sanctions, and urged residents to continue supporting the
police and other security agencies with timely and actionable information to
ensure public safety.
