Nigeria Immigration Service has intercepted
6, 216 voters cards, National ID cards intercepted from foreigners.
This was disclosed in Abuja, by the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS , Idris Jere ,during a one-day retreat for State Comptrollers in preparation for the 2023 general election.
Jere said the Voter Cards and National Identity Cards were intercepted from border Communities in 21/States of the Country.
The CG who spoke on preparedness of the NIS for the forth coming election urged Personnel of the Agency to protect the Country's Border so as not to allow non-Nigerians to vote during the election noting that general election is an opportunity for Service to showcase its proficiency in Border Management and intelligent gathering experiences.
The Immigration Service Boss hinted that the service will be introducing technology in border management and surveillance to monitor activities at the borders of the country.
He also commended Comptrollers of various Command of the Service for their role in ensuring that irregular migrants are eased out of the Country.
He called on Personnel of the Service to see period of election as a time for more consciousness and highest level of security awareness,emphasizing that any acts of compromise shall be treated as sabotage against national security.
While exhibiting the confiscated documents, the Comptroller General said the NIS has reached out to the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC and National Identity Card Management Commission, NIMC to expunge the details of the imposters in its data
bank.
The CG further informed that borders are usually closed during the elections to avoid infiltration by foreigners that may cause interruptions that could destabilise the election process.
