Commonwealth Member State urged to embrace peace,love,security and environmental sustainability.



The Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Mr Sani Tambuwal has urged the Commonwealth Member State to embrace peace,love,security and environmental sustainability.

The Clerk made the call at the event Organised by the Management of the  National Assembly to mark the 2023 Commonwealth Day.

 Tambuwal who was represented by the Acting Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly,Mr Kamaru Ogunlana observed that the current Russia-Ukraine war and other climate issues in the world  posses a  great danger to world peace and a sustainable future.

He expressed optimism that the recently established National Climate Change Innovation Hub will help in harnessing the potential among Nigerian youths towards addressing climate issues ,assuring that measures are being put in place by the Federal Government to address some issues on climate change through the establishment of youth climate change hub to harness ideas and include youths in decision-making process as well as develop long-term vision for zero gas emissions.

Giving a keynote address, Mrs. Rabi Audu called for   concerted efforts by all stakeholders especially Government and Parliaments of Commmonwealth Member States towards building a sustainable and peaceful environment.

She also urged the youths to engage in activities and programmes that will promote innovations and inclusivity for all.

Some of the students who participated in the programme urged Parliaments across Commonwealth Member States to hold their Governments to accountable, especially in the area of public spending.

Commonwealth Day which is formerly the Empire Day is the annual celebration of the Commonwealth of Nations, since 1977 often held on the second Monday in March.

The theme for Commonwealth Day 2023 is 'Forging a sustainable and peaceful common future
