The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has organised a two day training workshop to enhance the capacity of its investigations and prosecutions to effectively handle cases of Money Laundering, ML, Terrorism Financing, TF and Proliferation Financing
The training programme organized by the corps is aimed at equipping its investigators and prosecutors with the necessary skills, techniques and fresh ideas to effectively handle the cases which are relatively new to the corps.
The Commandant General of the Nigeria Acurity and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC Dr Ahmed Audi in his address at the opening ceremony of the workshop in Abuja, said that, the training would also mark a turning point in the investigation activities from focusing only on predicate offences of oil bunkering, pipeline vandalism, illegal mining to trailing the proceeds of these crimes.
Audi said The capacity development workshop, was also aimed at implementing part of the Mutual Evaluation Report recommended actions which would not only ensure Nigeria’s successful exit from the International Co-operation Review Group (ICRG) and Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering (GIABA) enhancfollowsow up process but pave way for the eventual membership of Nigeria into the Financial Action Taskforce, FATAF.
Also Speaking the minister of interior Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola represented by the Director Joint service Mr Peter Epodo charged participating officers in the training to strive for collaborations so as to make their efforts more meaningful.
The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC Abdulrasheed Bawa who was represented by Abdulkarim Chokur said criminality all over the world is in constant change of mutations and perpetrators are coming up with new ideals. He said it is expedient for government law enforcement agencies to be ahead of such advancement.
