Big
Vessel With 566 Containers Berths At Onne Port.
Nigerian
Ports Authority, Onne Port Complex, says it has received a big vessel, ‘Kota
Cempaka’ with 566 containers.
A
statement by the management of NPA, said the vessel sailing under the flag of
Singapore, has a length overall of 300 meters, and the successful berthing of
the vessel demonstrated the agency’s capacity and readiness for large ship
calls.
The
Managing Director of the NPA, Mohammed Bello-KoKo, said, it is a confirmation
of the capacity and readiness of eastern ports for vessel traffic which shows
that investments in channel navigability and security are yielding results, and
promised to sustain the advocacy for the patronage of the eastern ports.
The
General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications, Adams Jatto, in a
statement in Lagos said, the Maerskline Stardelhorn vessel, with a length
overall of 300 metres, and a width of 48 metres was received at the Federal
Ocean Terminal, Onne, Rivers State, at 16:20 hours on August 15.
Maritime
experts said, Nigeria is losing a sum of $9.2 billion dollars annually to
foreign shipping lines that are handling cargo that a national fleet is
supposed to handle.
