Reps pass for
The House of Representatives has on wednesday passed for second reading a Bill for an act to amend provisions of the Fire Service Act, CAP. F29, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and make provisions for the establishment of building safety measures, regulations and penalty for defaulters.
The bill which was sponsor of the bill,Hon Idem Unyime seeks to put in place a legal framework for the establishment of requisite prevention mechanisms and global best practices as well as safety world standards of measures, regulations, and penalty for default
Debating the proposed legislation,Idem maintained that if the bill is passed into law ,it will be of immense benefit to the Country as revenue will not only regulate safety of building alone but will generate revenue for government from commercial buildings seeking fire service approval as well as penalty from defaulters.
He therefore called on the House to pass bill for a second reading.
The proposed bill when passed will address fire outbreaks in country which has drawn attention worldwide in recent years, causing great losses to individuals, environment, economy, as well as governments.
The bill which was read for the first time on on the floor of the House on the 10th day of May 2021 was referred to the House Committee on Interior for further legislative input.
