History will be kind to the 9th National Assembly if  the National Health Act,2014 amendment bill is passed and signed into law.


A members of the House of representatives,Hon Sergius Ogun from Edo State says, history will be kind to the 9th National Assembly if the bill seeking to amend section 46 of the National Health Act,2014 is passed and signed into law by the President.


The proposed bill seeks to proffer penalty of five hundred million naira or imprisonment of seven years or both for public officers seeking medical treatment abroad with the use of public funds. 

Speaking with ATN Correspondent in Abuja,  Hon Sergius Ogun representing Esan North and Esan South-East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives , who is also the sponsor of the bill said the proposed legislation will address decay in medical infrastructure, personnel, poor standards and other challenges in the healthcare sector.

The bill passed first and second reading in the House of Representatives last year and is awaiting public hearing where position of stakeholders would be collated by the House to guide it for further legislative input.
