Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was on Wednesday shot
and hospitalised after a cabinet meeting in the central town of Handlova.
According to Dennik N daily, whose reporter saw the
premier being lifted into a car by security guards, reported that the suspected
gunman had been detained by police.
The official statement said the PM was taken to Banska Bystrica
instead of the capital city of Bratislava because “an acute intervention” was
necessary.
Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová condemned what she
called a “brutal and reckless” attack on the 59-year-old politician.
