Speaker of the Cross
River State House of Assembly, Elvert Ekom Ayambem, has been impeached.
The Speaker was
impeached by 17 members of the House during Wednesday’s plenary over
allegations of misappropriation of funds.
The impeachment motion
was moved by Effiom Ekarika, who represents Calabar South 1 Constituency.
The motion was seconded
by Omang Charles Omang, lawmaker representing Bekwarra State Constituency.
The impeached speaker,
Ayambem was elected Speaker of the 10th Cross River State House of Assembly in
June 2023.
