Gunmen on  Friday night attacked the constituency office of Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the member representing Bende federal constituency of Abia State.

The assailants  destroyed the office furniture, billboards and other valuables.

According to account of an eye witness,the gunmen came in two vehicles, including a Sienna and two motorcycles, shooting sporadically, causing tension in the community as those around the environment conducting their normal business activities scampered for safety.

Reacting to the development, Kalu who is also the spokesperson of the House of Representatives expressed sadness over the unwarranted attack, alleging that it is politically motivated.

He also assured that  people of his constituency are not deterred by the attack.

According to the lawmaker,the  constituency office has been there since 2018 and has not been attacked until just few days to the election. 

The Member who said they are really proud of what they have done for the people observed that many are offended and  are trying to team up to suffocate democracy that is at its best in Bende federal constituency by destroying  properties .

The Member who is seeking a second term to the House of Representatives also said that billboards were  destroyed  but they have not broken the bridges that he built, they have shattered the windows of my office, but they have not shattered the empowerment given to the people to be on their feet.

Kalu further appealed to members his constituency to remain calm and avoid taking the laws into their hands.

 On his part, the DPO in-charge of the area has assured that investigation will unmask those behind the attack.
