Committee Says Senate Working With Reps On Constitution Review.
Senate Committee on Constitution Review says the
Senate working with the House of Reps on constitution review.
This is coming after the Tenth Senate on February
14, constituted a 45-member committee to review and amend the 1999
Constitution, eight months after its resumption.
The Senate President, Godwill Akpabio, at the
inauguration, said the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, would chair the
committee, while, the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele would be the deputy
chairman.
The Senate President also said, the 1999
Constitution needed a review because it contained many issues that needed to be
“put right, and a week after the inauguration, the committee held an inaugural
meeting, where it set a 24-month deadline.
Also, at the inaugural meeting, the committee
chairman, Barau, said, observations raised by members would be used as a road
map in the workings of the committee.
