Police in Lagos on Monday arraigned two estate agents, Lukman Akande and Justice
Odion, before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, for alleged N1.5 million fraud.
The defendants – Akande, 43, and Odion, 34, whose addresses were not provided,
are standing trial on a two-count charge of fraud and breach of the peace.
The prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the defendants committed
the offences on July 26, at Power Line Atunshe Bus Stop, Era Road, Ijanikin area,
Lagos. He said the offences contravene Sections 168 and 315 of the Criminal Law of
Lagos State, 2015.
The prosecutor stated that the defendants fraudulently obtained the sum of N1.5
million from one Mr Yomi Obafusu, with the guise of hiring an unused viewing centre.
He said that the defendants hired the centre but failed to remit the money to the
property owner. However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, granted bail to the defendants in the
sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum. He ordered that one of the
sureties should be a community leader with two years evidence of tax payment to the
Lagos State Government. Adekomaiya adjourned the case until Sept.10 for mention.
