The appearance of the name of the former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarua, on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s final list of NNPP senatorial candidate for Kano State could jeopadised the chances of the party and threw a fresh legal battle in the days ahead if immediate actions are not taken by the party.
This was the
submission of Guests on ATN Politics, while commenting on the appearance of the
name of Shekarau on INEC final list of NNPP senatorial candidates’ weeks after
he dumped the party.
Barrister Akintayo
Balogun one of the guest on the programme observed that if Shekarau remains as
NNPP candidate and after the election he is declared winner, the losers of the
election would have a good ground for approaching the Court for the election to
be upturned thereby truncating whatever victory the NNPP may have in the
election.

Suggesting a way out of the quagmire, another guest on the programme, Mr. Niyi Afolabi said the NNPP should quickly approach Shakarau and get his withdrawal consent so as to allow the party field in a replacement.
Speaking on his withdrawal consent, Barrister Balogun noted that having resign his membership of NNPP, his consent is no longer needed for a substitution to be made, however, the court remains the final arbiter on whether or not his consent is needed.
Senator Ibrahim
Shekarau even after dumping the NNPP for the PDP he still made the NNPP list of
senatorial candidate for Kano State on INEC final list of candidates for
federal elections. Shekarua had accused the presidential candidate of NNPP,
Rabiu Kwankwaso, of violating their agreement and ploting to soil his
reputation after Kwankwaso failed to accommodate his supporters in the party’s
elective positions
