The Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria,CBN, Godwin Emiefele have assured the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that CBN will not allow itself to be used or to be seen as agent that would frustrate the positive outcome of the the forth coming general election.
The Governor who made the disclosure tuesday as he received a delegation from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),led by the Chairman, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu,at CBN headquarters in Abuja.
Emiefele assured the Apex Bank will ensure that it will make cash available to INEC for payment of logistics and movement of election materials.
He further noted that CBN regards projects by the INEC as an urgent national assignment that deserves topmost attention.
Earlier in his remarks, the chairman of the independent National Electoral Commission,INEC, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu said that the meeting was necessary to ensure the availability of cash for transportation of materials for the 2023 elections and for the payment of services that would be rendered by vendors most of whom are unbanked .
The meeting with the CBN Governor is coming as a result of the recent cash swap deadline policy, caused by the redesign of some denominations of
naira currency, and the limitations placed on cash withdrawals and availability.
