Agric Institute Bill
Scales Second Reading.
Bill for an Act to establish the Agricultural
and Energy Technical Institute in Aboh, Delta State has passed the second
reading in the House of Representatives, and the Federal Government will soon
establish the institute.
Sponsored by the member representing
Ndokwa-Ukwani Federal Constituency, Delta State, Nnamdi Ezechi, the proposed law
seeks to amend the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria Act of the
Federation, 2004, to pave the way for the establishment of the Agricultural and
Energy Technical Institute in Aboh.
Leading the debate on the general principles
of the bill during plenary, the lawmaker said, the proposed law held immense
potential for the agricultural and energy sectors of the nation.
He also said, the bill aligned with the
government’s agenda to diversify the economy and promote self-sufficiency in
food production, adding that, the institute will also serve as a catalyst for
innovation, technology transfer, and collaboration among academia, industry,
and government agencies. The bill will also foster a conducive environment for
research and development, as well as unlock the untapped potential of the
agricultural and energy sectors towards sustainable growth and prosperity for
generations to come,
The Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas also
referred the bill to the Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions
for further legislative action.
